From construction sites to home projects to weekend adventures, when there's work to do, Knoxville drivers know they can count on the performance and dependability of the Ford F-150. An industry cornerstone, F-150 has been the country's best-selling truck ever since 1977, just two years after Ford spun it off from the F-100 and F-250. And thanks to Ford's dedication to perpetual innovation, it continues to reign as America's Favorite truck, even forty-five years later.

Before the F-150 was its own model, Ford launched the F-Series line in 1948 with the F-1 through F-8. Five years later, in 1953, Ford introduced the permanent naming convention still used to this day. The F-1 became the F-100, while the F-2 and F-3 combined to become the F-250. These models continued until Ford rolled out the F-150 to bridge the gap between the F-100 and F-250. This year also saw the introduction of the SuperCab body style.

By 1977, consumers had fallen in love with the F-150's "just right" capability, size, and value, and the legendary pickup started a run that still shows no signs of stopping. By the 1980s, the F-150 had evolved into much more than a workhorse. Customers could choose custom paint packages, and larger cabs meant more room for families, expanding the target audience and cementing its place as the segment leader. In 1983, Ford discontinued the F-100 to focus on the segment-defining F-150.

Over the following generations, Ford continued to innovate, perfecting its flagship vehicle for each iteration, with upgrades to style, performance, features, and comfort. Today, the F-150 is better and more advanced than ever, with robust powerplants, game-changing towing technologies, upscale interiors, cutting-edge driver aids, and more.
